Analysis of contractual provisions of risk management in rohtang tunnel

Construction of tunnel always involves risk which is closely related to cost, time and safety. Provisions of risk management and risk sharing have been covered in construction contract of Rohtang tunnel. Method of Rock mass classification with anticipated rock class throughout the length of the tunnel has been provided in tunnel. Stoppage of construction due to geological surprises, Force measure, Value engineering, Escalation etc have been covered in construction contract. Limited period of construction in a year at north portal has been mentioned in contract. Engineer is always available at project site to record daily activities and determine risk sharing in fair manner. For the smooth running of the project risk management is very important.
