Abstract

Due to various climatic changes and the effects of microorganisms there are several disorders to which lips are prone to, the petroleum jelly has been widely used as a lip care product for many years. It is highly occlusive in nature, meaning it forms a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, sealing in moisture. It helps to prevent moisture loss from the lips, keeping them hydrated and preventing dryness and chapping. Red amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus L.), Red onion peels (Allium cepa L.) and Marigold flower petals (Tagetes erecta L.) are the perineal plants locally found in Vidarbha region has been subjected for thorough literature study for its antimicrobial and antioxidant activities and they were found potential for it. The pharmacognostical investigation involving the physicochemical parameters like determination of ash value, extractive value, moisture content etc., preliminary examination of crude drugs for presence of various chemical constituents such as carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, glycosides etc, the qualitative analysis of the inorganic elements into the crude drug extract was aim of the study in order to develop a polyherbal lip petroleum jelly from red amaranth, red onion peels and the marigold petals. Furthermore, the study also focuses on the antimicrobial studies and reviewing antioxidant potential of the crude drug extracts. The utilization of these herbal extracts also highlights the potential for utilizing abundant and locally available plant resources in cosmetic formulations, reducing the reliance on synthetic ingredients and promoting sustainability. The results demonstrated that the combination of red amaranth leaves, Further studies are warranted to evaluate the long-term stability, safety, and consumer acceptance of the polyherbal lip petroleum jelly, as well as to explore the potential for scaling up production and commercialization. As there are very few literatures available for the pharmacognostical studies of this plant the present work also emphasizes the microscopical characteristics and the chemical nature of the crude drugs.
