To What Volume Citizens Trust Swings Regarding the Professionalism of City Corporations? A Comparative Study in Bangladesh

Abstract

The issue of professionalism and trust in administration is considered a debatable issue in Bangladesh. City Corporation is one of the largest local government organizations that have to carry professionalism for delivering services to the citizens with a view to achieving citizen trust. Professionalism of city corporations indicates city corporations’ performance, effectiveness, efficiency, integrity, rules, regulations, principles as well as standard behaviors to the citizens during delivering public services. This study has scrutinized the crucial issues of citizen trusts in Barishal City Corporation and Chittagong City Corporation including presenting an authentic picture of citizens’ trust, finding out the key reasons of ups and downs of trust with the ups and downs of professionalism, a comparative study between mentioned city corporations. Primary and secondary sources of information have been taken into consideration for the purpose. Semi-structured questionnaires for survey and interview were used as the data collection tool from city corporation’s mayor, officials, elected representatives and citizens where stratified random sampling was applied in the study.
