It is a matter of pleasure for all of us that the Volume 7 (2) September 019 issue of Public Affairs & Governance is published in scheduled time frame. It is to be noted that nine papers of varied ramifications are included in this coveted volume for the appreciation of esteemed readers and other stakeholders.
To start with the first article is on Governance and Popular Democracy: A Case of TRAI and CERC. In his writing the author explores the conceptual understanding of the regulatory commissions in India and role and activities TRAI and CERC in particular. The next paper is on An Estimation of Comptroller and Auditor General of India as Supreme Audit Authority of India. It is true that this is supreme audit authority of India and came to limelight under Vinod Rai exposing a number of scams. This paper deals with an in-depth study of CAG covering constitutional status, functions, roles and need for reforms.
Further, there is a research article on Swachh Bharat Mission - Gramin: Role in Improving Sanitation Status in India. No doubt, it is a prominent cleanliness campaign of India highlighting the Open Defecation Free (ODF) with the target to be achieved by October 2019 matching with the 180th birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi. Eventually the project was to construct 100 million households/community toilets. Fourth academic work is on Facilitating Sustainable Development in Rural Women through Financial Inclusion with special reference to National Rural Livelihood Mission in Haryana State. It is an important central government initiative intended to cut down poverty in rural areas and essentially women empowerment and financial inclusion, integral components of this mission, are pointer of sustainable development of India.
Scholars from Bangladesh also contributed on various issues like Higher Education in Bangladesh: Quality Issues and Practices; Rationale for Access to Local Justice System: The Case of Village Court: The Case of Village Court in Bangladesh; and People's Participation and Accountability at the Sub-District Council in Bangladesh, Mapping the Violence and Inconsistencies ofthe Debut Partisan Union Parishad Election-2016 of Bangladesh. There is one more paper on Violent Internal Conflict and Educational System in Wukari Town - Taraba State, Nigeria indicating theoretical issues and empirical information relating to these conflicts.
