Legal validity of scientific techniques of investigation

As our society is marching ahead in a fast pace, the criminals are also not lagging behind, rather the present crime scenario clearly predicts that criminals are a step ahead. Traditional methods of criminal investigation which have been in practice in India for a long time have failed to yield concrete results. To tackle these criminals, advanced methods of criminal investigation are the need of the hour. The answer to this need has come in the form of The Deception Detection Test which utilises technology as a tool to extract truth from the criminals. This test includes Narco analysis Test, Lie detector and Brain mapping. These tests are not only important for investigating the crimes but are also helpful in tracking out the future criminal activities going to be committed by the criminals in the society. Though there is a demand for the use of these techniques, at the same time it raises legal, ethical and some medical issues regarding use and implications of these techniques. This article makes an attempt to critically analyse the relevance of these tests and their legal validity in the criminal justice system of India.
