Cu (II) picrate complexes with the ligands hydrazine, pyridine and acetylacetone semiarbazone had been synthesised and characterzed by physico-chemical techniques. The conductivity measurements showed that the complexes were nonelectrolytic and magnetic moment data confirmed the presence of one unpaired electron in all the three complexes. IR spectra showed the mono-dentate nature of picric acid and pyridine, whereas, hydrazine showed bidentate nature and aectylacetone semicarbazone tetradentate nature. The eicetronic spectra and magnetic data suggested distorted octahedral genometry of the three complexes. The ligands and complexes had been tested for their biological activity and it had been found that all the three complexes had antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus glaucus and Alternaria alternata and their activities increased with increasing concentrations.
