Synthesis, Structural Characterization and Biological Studies of Cu (II) Complexes with Some Nitrogen and Oxygen Containing Ligands

Abstract

Cu (II) picrate complexes with the ligands hydrazine, pyridine acetylacetone semiarbazone had been synthesised and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. The conductivity measurements showed that the complexes are none electrolytic and magnetic moment data confirm the presence of one unpaired electron in all the three complexes. IR spectra showed the mono-dentate nature of picric acid and pyridine, whereas hydrazine showed bidentate nature and acetylacetone semicarbazone tetradentate nature. The electronic spectra and magnetic data suggested distorted octahedral geometry of the three complexes. The ligands and complexes have been tested for their biological activity and it has been found that all the three complexes have antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus glaucus and Alternaria alternata and their activities increased with increslng concentrations.
