Yield and Economics of Brassica Species as Influenced by Growth Regulators and Fertility Levels Under Semi-Arid Area of Indo-Gangetic Plain

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at the Research Station/Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Badaun to see the yield and economics of Brassica species as influenced by growth regulators and fertility levels under semi-arid area of Indo-Gangetic plain during rabi reason of 2002–03 and 2003–04. Among three Brassica species, the highest seed yield (2052 kg ha−1) was recorded with Brasslea napus var. Hyola 401 followed by B. Juncea var. Urvashi (1871 kg ha−1) and B. eompestrls var. Ragini (1283 kg h−1). Use of growth regulators resulted in higher seed yield (6.0 to 7.6%) over its control. Among the growth regulators used, Biozyme exceeded over Aminos. Seed yields were increased with increasing levels of fertilizer doses and use of recommended levels of fertilizer (90, 40, 20 and 30 kg N, P, K and S, respectively) had 30.4 and 9.7% higher yield over 50% and 75% recommended doses of fertilizers, respectively. The maximum net returns (Rs. 19,790 ha−1 was obained in var. Hyola 401 followed by Urvashi (Rs. 18,301 ha−1). The maximum net return and B: C ratio was recorded when Biozyme was used instead of Aminos. Further as growth regulators the net returns and B: C ratios increased with increasing fertility levels and were highest (Rs. 18,503 and 1.67) with 100% recommended levels of fertilizers.
