Effect of Post Harvest Application of Different Chemicals on Shelf-life of Aonla (Emblica Officinalis Gaertn) Cv. NA-6

Abstract

The experiment was conducted on eight year old aonla plant cultivar NA-6 during the year 2004–05 on the experimental farm and department laboratory of applied plant science (Horticulture) B.B. Ambedkar University, Lucknow. The uniformly harvested mature fruit of aonla cultivar NA-6 were stored at room temperature (19.6 ± 5.40 C and R.H. 68%) after separately dipping the unit samples for ten minutes in an aqueous solution of gibberellic acid (25 ppm) and kinetin (150 ppm). The control fruits were dipped in water only for 10 minutes. In case of diphenyl treatment all the chemical was found effective over the control. Diphenyl @ 0.25 g/ha fruits was found most effective in reducing the physiological loss in weight and browning percent followed by kinetin (150 ppm) and GA3 (25 ppm). Minimum TSS and acidity were recorded with the treatment kinetin (150 ppm) followed by GA3 and Diphenyl. However, acidity on aonla fruits increases upto some days of storage at ambient condition, thereafter decreases on subsequent days of storage.
