India is the second largest rice growing country in the world. Despite being a rice exporting country it has a very low average productivity in comparison to the world average. Rice is also the major crop of Uttar Pradesh contributing is about 16 per cent to the national production with an average productivity 1958 kg/ha in 5.93 million hectares of area. However, there is a wide gap between the potential yield of varieties achieved at demonstrations/experimental farms and what the farmers are getting in their fields. A large number of scientific recommendations on agriculture have been evolved but not all of them have reached in the hands of farmers. This has consequently caused a wide gap between available scientific knowledge and its applicaion. Based on above, present investigation was undertaken to know the extent of technological gap on the producion of rice in Faizabad district with a total of 300 sample size of small, medium and large categories of farmers during 2000–01. It was found from the study that more than 54%-sampled population did not adopt any recommendation, which was considered as high-level gap. The result of the study confirms the need for educating all the categories of farmers and update their knowledge related to rice production technologies for early adoption.
