Correlation and path coefficient analysis were carried out using 34 diverse genotypes of black gram. Seed yield had, positive and significant association with number of pods/plant, plant height pod length, number of seeds/pod, days to flower and days to maturity, while negative correlation with primary branches/plant Number of pods/plant with plant height and pod length; pod length with number of seeds/pod and plant height had positive and significant correlations. Path coefficient analysis also revealed positive direct effect of pods/plant, plant height, pod length and days to flower on seed yield/plant Hence, due weightage should be given on these component characters in selection programme for improving seed yield in black gram. Highest coefficient of variation was observed for number of secondary branches/plant followed by seeds/pod, primary branches/plant, 100-seed weight and seed yield/plant
