Abstract

A study was conducted to design, development and performance of improved mud bamboo bins with various treatments for storage of paddy. The moisture fluctuations were maximum in control bin and minimum in bin with polyethylene lining. The grain temperature was higher in control bin compared to other bins. Germination and viability losses were higher in control, neem and coal tar coated bins compared to polyethylene and lime coated bins. Weight losses were higher in control, coal tar and neem coated bins compared to polyethylene lined and lime coated bins. Mainly three types of insects were observed and their population was maximum in control bin and minimum in bin with polyethylene lining. Milling analysis showed that there was decreas of 2- 3.5 per cent in total yield in all the bins.
