Abstract

Progenies of North Carolina design " from two crosses of bidi tobacco (GT 5 x Anand 119 and GT 7 x Anand 145) along with their selfed progenies(F3) were evalutated in compact family block design with two replications in field. Significant differences between mean values of NCD progenies and F3 progenies were observed for certain characters. The additive variances for plant height and number of leaves per plant in cross I were significant while dominance variance was singnific3nt in case of yield in cross II. All the additive variances were positive while four out of twelve dominance variances were negative. Out of twelve estimated variances seven additive and eight dominance exhibited higher standard error than their estimate.
