Complexes of vanadyl, zirconyl and uranyl cations with dimethylhydrazine and phenylhydrazine have been synthesised and characterised on the basis of analytical data, magnetic moment, electrical conductance, electronic and I.R. spectral studies. On the basis of magnetic moment studies it has been confirmed that the complexes of zirconium and uranium oxocations are diamagnetic where as the oxovanadium complexes show subnormal magnetic moment due to exchange interaction between vanadium (IV) ions. Electrical conductance data indicate that all the complexes show nonelectrolytic nature. Elemental analysis confirms the formula MOn L4 X2 where M stands for V, Zr or U, n=1 or 2 L = dimethylhydrazine or phenylhydrazine, X = Cl, Br, I, N03 or NCS. Spectral studies show that these complexes contain chelated hydrazine or purhaps more likely a polymeric network containing bridging hydrazine.
