Performance of hybrids of brinjal (Solanum Melongena L.) under Chhattisgarh plains

Abstract

Twenty-two hybirds (11 round and 11 long types) of brinjal from divers source were studied during rabi 2000–01 to assess the performance of hybirds. The material was grown in RBD with three replications each at horticultural Research farm, IGAU, Raipur (C.G.) Among round groups plants of Pusa Hybird-6 were found tallest (69.38 cm) with more number of bracnches (12.40), maximum number of fruits (14.90) and highest yield per plant (2529.83 gm). Maximum fruit girth (32.82 cm) was also observed in Pusa Hybrid-6 with maximum weight per fruit (345.16 g) resulting in high~st yield (385.18 q/ha). Among long hybirds maximum plant height was recorded in NDBH-13(75.14 cm). However ANK-541 recorded maximum number of fruits per plant (25.20), but the highest yield (951.75 q/ha) was obtained in KBHL-1, which was found significantly superior over all hybirds. Highest yield (951.75 q/ha) was attributed to cumulative effect of highest weight per fruit (299.33g), maximum fruit girth (25.05 cm), more number of branches (14.0) and maximum yield per plant (2330.0g). Saurabh was found to be earlist to 50% flowering (30.0 DAT), whereas the highest fruit set was recorded in ANK-541 (61.66%). Overall KBHL-1 recorded highest yield (951.75 q/ha) among the both brinjal hybirds.
