An experiment was conducted on loamy soil to ascertain the proper irrigation sheduling and water use of late sown wheat. The results revealed that under late sown conditions for wheat, irrigation scheduling at 40 and 50 mm Cumulative Pan Evaporation (CPE) value significiantly infulenced the growth and yield attribute characters like plant height, ears/m2, granis/ear and 1000-grain weight. Simultaneouly, the grain yield of 5530 and 5391 kg ha−1 during 2000–01 and 2001–02, respectively was significantly higher at 50 mm CPE irrigation scheduling as compared to 4724 and 4720 kg ha−1 with 65 mm CPE irrigation scheduling and 4487 and 4535 kg ha−1 with 80 mm CPE irrigation scheduling, respectivley, however, it was statistically at par with 5470 and 5341 kg ha−1 grain yield with 40mm CPE. The water use efficiency (kg ha−1 mm−1) was found to be decresing with increase in quantity of irrigation water supplied.
