Abstract

The 10 x 10 parent diallel set excluding reciprocals and including parents were studied. The estimate of phenotypic, genotypic, and environmental correlation coefficient among 12 quantitative traits. In general, the value of genotypic correlation coefficients were observed to be high in magnitude than the phenotypic correlation coefficients. The nature and magnitude of relationship between yield and yield contributing characters and among the characters themselves, were also determined. Grain yield/plant exhibited significant and positive association with length of the pod, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod, number of branches/plant, 100 -grain weight and harvest index in percent, F1 and F2 generations. The correlation in segregating generation is disturbed due to segregating and crossing over breakage of the linkage. Character days to maturity, length of pod, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod, number of branches/plant, 100 -grain weight and harvest index are the major yield contributing traits in pea. Therefore, selection of there traits may be more effective for breeding point of view.
