Abstract

Correlation and path coefficient are important tools for getting information regarding relationship among traits for use in selection. In the present study, these parameters have been studied in 50 black gram (Vigna mungo L. Hepper) genotypes, which are planted in zaid season (1997 and 1998) in randomized block designs. Estimates of genotypic correlation revealed positive and highly significant association among plant height, no. of branches/plant, no. of clusters/plant, no. of pods/plant, pod length, no. of seeds/pod and 100-seed weight. The phenotypic correlations too showed the same pattern of associations. Path coefficients at genotypic level revealed that days to maturity, no. of pods/plant, no. of clusters/plant, no. of branches/plant, no. of seeds/pod and 100-seed weight had maximum direct-contribution and also exerted appreciable indirect influence on yield.
