Viability of paddy seeds was found to be critically influenced by electrical conductivity for freshlyharvested seeds at different level of electrical conductivity. When electrical conductivity of seeds dropped blow 2 milli siemen viability starts to increase and 4.02 milli siemen seeds become virtually nonviable. The present study thereby conform the recalcitrant nature of paddy seeds step in retention of paddy seedviability. As such, if the initial electrical conductivity is high, germination may take place during storageit self, and if too low the final seed electrical conductivity in a particular treatment may fall blow thedesirable electrical conductivity range resulting in the higher viability. From the present study it wasconcluded that improved storability of paddy seeds under ambient temperature is possible bymaintaining a proper seed seed moisture content. Result were also found that basmati genotype havinghighest viability of paddy seeds and moderate value of viability was shown by Ratna and lowest shownby Gainda Paddy seed when higher value of electrical conductivity of Gainda.
