Effectiveness of essential oils against three stored grain insect in plastic jars

Abstract

The laboratory experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of essential oils against Sitophilus oryzae, Rhyzopertha dominica and Tribolium casataneum in wheat stored in plasic jars under laboratory condition. The essential oil of Chenopodium botrys, Citrus reticulata, Lantana camara, and Pinus roxburghii at 0.4 percent either alone or in combination of Chenopodium botrys+ Citrus reticulata, Citrus reticulata+ Pinus roxburghii, Lantana camara + Pinus roxburghii Chenopodium botrys + Pinus roxburghii at 0.2 percent each completely check the feeding and breeding of Sitophilus oryzae, Rhyzoprtha dominica and Tribolium castaneum and inhibit 100 percent population in wheat stored inplastic jars. The essential oil of Chenopodium botrys, Citrus reticulata, Lantana camara, and Pinus roxburghii at 0.4 percent either alone or in combination of Chenopodium botrys+ Citrus reticulata, Chenopodium botrys+ Lantana camara and Lantana camara+ Pinus roxburghii at 0.2 percent each completely check the infestation as compare to untreated control in plastic jars.
