Genetic association between yield and malting quality in barley (Hordium vulgare L.)

Abstract

12 parent 66 F1’s and 66 F2’s of twelve parent diallel set of two-and six rowed barley were evaluated in a randomised block design for 15 quantitative and some malting quality traits. Correlation studies revealed that grain yield was significiantly and-positively correlated with number of grains per main spike, biological yield, harvest index, grain weight and husk content, while 1000-Kernel weight, protein content arid whole nitrogen content were significantly and negatively correlated with grain yield jn parent, F1’s and F2’s generation. No correlation vtas observed between grain yield and malt yield.
