Genetic components of variance were estimated in barley in respect of yield components and some malting attributes following diallel cross (excluding reciprocals). Additive component was predominant for plant height, grains per spike and protein content where as dominant genetic variance was significant for productive tillers/plant, spike length, grain yield/plant, 1000 kernel weight, husk content and malt yield. Over dominance was observed for all traits in both the generations except for grains/spike and protein content where partial dominance was important. High heritability estimates were observed for days to reproductive phase, plant height, grains/spike, protein content, husk content and malt yield and medium heritability for grain yield/plant, productive tillers/plant and 1000 kernel weight.
