Comparative growth of subsidised agriculture credit (SAC) in India with special reference to Karnataka

Abstract

The analysis of growth is usually used in economic studies to find out the trend of a particular variable over a period of time. The growth in amount disbursement of Subsidised Agriculture Credit in India, Karnataka, North-East Karnataka region and Gulbarga district was estimated using the compound growth function. The necessary secondary data about Subsidised Agriculture Credit for India were collected from RBI publications. The same data for Karnataka, North East Karnataka region and Gulbarga district were collected for the period 2006–07 to 2011–12 from respective lead banks. At national level, the commercial banks (70.61%) have the highest amount disbursement of Subsidised Agriculture Credit amongst the three formal financial agencies, followed by co-operative banks (18.86%) and RRBs (10.53%). The similar pattern was observed for Karnataka state. With respect to disbursement of SAC in NEK region, the total amount of disbursement was highest in the case of commercial banks (46.34%) followed by RRBs and co-operative banks. Similar trend was observed in the Gulbarga district.
