Effect of Bio fertilizers and nitrogen on yield, N Up-Take, N-Use efficiency and apparent N Recovery in wheat

A field experiment was conducted at Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh during 2005–07 to study the effect of biofertilizers and nitrogen on yield, N uptake, N-use efficiency and apparent N recovery in wheat. Seed inoculation with both of the Rhizobacteria and Azotobactor significantly increased the grain yield of wheat by 5.96 and 7.55%, respectively, over control. Similarly, N-use efficiency, apparent N recovery and net returns were more under inoculation. Rhizobacteria and Azotobacter inoculation fetched 9.7 and 7.2% higher mean net returns, respectively over control. Nitrogen application @ 120 kg/ha enhanced grain yield, harvest index, N-use efficiency and apparent N recovery in Wheat. However, the differences between 60 and 120 kg N/ha were not significant. Improvement in organic carbon and total N content of soil was noticed up to 60 kg N/ha and due to application of bio fertilizers.
