Abstract

Four released varieties of finger millets millet viz PRM 1, PRM 701, VL 315 and PES 400 were tested for their tolerance to different levels of NaCl (0, 50, 100 and 150mM). Seed germination and early seedling development traits were studied. All the four varieties responded differently to increasing salt stress at seedling stage. All the studied traits revealed declining trend with increasing salt concentration. Highly significant difference was observed among the genotypes at different salt stress levels. PRM 1 was highly tolerant whereas, the variety PES 400 was highly susceptible.
