A four row bullock drawn groundnut planter was developed and tested for winter-summer sowing (irrigated condition) at Agricultural Research Station, Anantapur during the years 2010–11 and 2011–12 post rainy seasons. The seed metering in the planter was of vertical plate type. Power was transmitted from ground wheel to metering system through chain and sprockets. A shoe type furrow opener was provided for opening the furrows. During evaluation, the field capacity of the planter was found to be 0.15 ha/h at the average speed of operation 2.57 km/h. The field efficiency of the planter was 67%. It can maintain recommended seed rate of 140–150 kg/ha with row to row and seed to seed spacing of 22.5 and 10 cm respectively and also required plant population per m2 of 44 for irrigated condition. The cost of prototype planter was about Rs. 9500/-.
