Abstract

A herbicide spraying attachment was developed and attached behind the existing inclined plate type groundnut planter for simultaneous sowing of groundnut and herbicide application. Power is transmitted from ground wheel to metering system through chain and sprockets for seed sowing and from P.T.O shaft to single axial piston type pump through belt drive for herbicide spraying. The seed is placed in the furrows at desired depth and covered with a covering device. After this immediately herbicide get sprayed on soil. The implement is operated by a 35 hp tractor. During evaluation the field capacity of the machine was found to be 0.47 ha/h with an average operating speed of 3 km/h and herbicide application rate of 1100 liters/ha. The field efficiency of the machine was found to be 65 percent. There was a saving of 21.87 man-h/ha groundnut sowing with planter cum herbicide sprayer as compared to sowing with local manual seed drill followed by power operated knapsack sprayer for herbicide spraying. The cost of operation was found to be Rs.1,006/- per ha and a saving of 27% over local practice method. The crop parameters and yield were comparable in both the methods.
