A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2004–2005 and Rabi 2004–2005 and 2005–2006 at experimental fields of Division of Olericulture SKUAST-K Shalimar, J&K to assess the effect of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers on rhizosphere fungal/bacterial population in okra-pea rotation with 25 treatments comprising of sole application of organics, inorganic fertilizer, integration of organics and integration of organic sources with inorganic fertilizers in equal proportion. The study revealed that maximum population of fungi and bacteria (60.11 x 105 and 74.15 x 105 g−1 soil respectively) was recorded with treatment T24 (FYM 3 t + SM 2 t + PM 0.5 t + VC 0.6 t + BF 7 kg + 60:30:30 N:P2O5:K2O kg ha−1). Among sole application of organics, treatment, T6 (Bio fertilizers (BF) Azospirillium+Phosphobacteria @ 7 kg ha1) registered maximum fungal and bacterial count of 31.10 and 59.80 x 105 g−1 soil respectively. Among organic integration, treatment T16 (PM 3 t + BF 7kg ha−1) recorded maximum fungal population of 59.80 x 105 g−1 of soil, while as treatment T17 (VC 3 t + BF 7 kg ha−1) registered maximum bacterial build up of 70.58 x 105 g−1 of soil. Integration of individual organic sources and inorganic fertilizers in equal proportion (50:50) recorded maximum fungal/bacterial population as compared to sole application of organics and inorganics. Treatment T23 BF 7kg + 60:30:30 N: P2O5: K2O kg ha−1 registered a population of 43.89 and 69.45 x 105 g−1 soil for fungi and bacteria respectively. Lowest fungal/bacterial populations were recorded with control, 50% and 100% recommended fertilizer dose.
