A comparative study between migrants and non-migrants in their socio-personal and socio-economic profiles

In reference to socio-personal characteristics of the respondents, majority of the migrants and non-migrants belonged to the medium age group of 35–50 years, other back ward caste with low education, living in joint medium sized family with low social participation in case of migrants and upto higher secondary and more social participation in case of non-migrants. The major source of earning of the migrants was found labour works in migration period and in case of non-migrants, the major source of earning was found agriculture con tributed for 40.24 and 70.53 per cent, respectively. It was found that only 22.86 per cent income was earned from agriculture in case of migrants. As for as expenditure pattern is concerned it was found that the migrants and non-migrants invested about 76.83 and 51.32 per cent of their earning on domestic purposes. Whereas, the expenditures on agriculture was 7.10 and 20.42 per cent by the migrants and non-migrants, respectively. Socio-economic charac teristics i.e. irrigation facility, land holding and income were found significantly superior in case of non-migrants as compared to migrants. While, credit acqui sition and occupation showed non-significant difference. A significant differ ence was found in migrant and non-migrant respondents for communicational characteristics i.e. contact with extension personal.
