Effect of site-specific nutrient management on productivity, profitability and soil N, P and K balance in rice – rice-cropping system

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted on rice (Oryza sativa L.) consecutively for four years during Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2005–06, 2006–07 2007-08 and 2008–09 on Godavari alluvials (Vertic chromusters) at Andhra Pradesh Rice Research Institute-Maruteru, A.P. India on clay loam soil revealed that among all the fertiliser doses, application of site specific nutrient management package i.e. NPK B @ 100-90-90-0 kg/ha resulted the highest grain yield, net returns during Kharif, Rabi as well as of whole system. Ignoring the application of P & K fertilisers for rice resulted in significant yield loss besides mining the very precious nutrient base of soil. Site-specific nutrient management involved balanced nutrition to rice crop showed its positive impact on yield and economics of rice-rice system. Boron application was found to be not useful in improving rice yields in flood plains of Godavari delta.
