Abstract

The physiological traits viz. RWC, MSI and chlorophyll content showed significant correlation with biomass production, seed yield and harvest index. It is inferred from the present study that the high yielding genotypes under moisture stress conditions possessed better co-ordination between morpho-physiological traits and hence yield better. Simple physiological parameters like, RWC and MSI may be used in screening of large breeding population as well as selection of stress tolerant parents. These traits can be used in breeding programme for enhancing the yield potential of chickpea under stress environmental conditions.
