Abstract

The Parental lines Mordan and E.C. 376187 had significant positive gca effect for flower head size, seed index and grain yield but Mordan showed negative gca for days to flowering and maturity in sunflower. The line EC 376235 exhibited significant positive gca effect for seed filling percentage and grain yield but negative gca effect for days to maturity and flower head size. The parents EC 37786, EC 376235 and Mordan showed significant positive gca effect for oil content. The cross combinations EC 376235 × Mordan and EC 37785 × Mordan showed significant negative sca effects for days to flowering as well as maturity i.e. the good combiners for earliness. The cross combinations EC 376187 × EC 376217 and EC 37785 × Mordan had significant positive sca effect for grain yield and its contributing charaters i.e. flower head size, seed filling and seed index. The crosses (EC 376216 × Mordan), (EC 376235 × EC 376217), (EC 376187 × EC 376234), (EC 37785 × Mordan) and (EC 376216 × EC 376235) were good combiners for oil percentage.
