Effect of ABA and GA3 on Hyperhydricity and Assessment of In Vitro and Ex Vitro Rooting Pattern for Suitability of Acclimatization in Carnation

Abstract

Effect of ABA and GA3 on hyperhydricity and shoot prolifeartion on three varieties of carnation Viz. White Sim, Exquisite and Scania on MS medium was studied. The culture system consisted of a full strength Murashige and Skoog medium with an optimum concentration of NAA (0.15 ppm) and Kinetin (1 ppm) for all three varieties. Different concentrations of ABA and GA3 were tested for their effect on hyperhydricity and proliferation on each variety for 21 days. NAA (0.4 ppm) with GA3 (2.0 ppm) and NAA (0.5 ppm) plus GA3 (2.5 ppm) gave 0% hyperhydricity in all the three varieties but also reduced the shoot proliferation. All the non-hyperhydrified shoots tested for in vitro and ex vitro rooting revealed that ex vitro rooting is better.
