Micronutrient status of the soils and different vegetable crops grown in sewage water irrigated fields

Abstract

A field study was carried out to find out the effect of different quality of water on the physico-chemical properties of the soils and micronutrients concentration of different vegetables at Regional Station, Bathinda. The vegetable growing field irrigated with sewage water, sewage + tubewell water, tubewell and canal water were selected for study. The results indicted that the maximum content of Zn (2.89), Cu (1.48), Mn (25.66) and that Fe (43.75 mg kg−1) were observed in sewage water irrigated fields. Whereas minimum content of these elements Zn (1.02), Cu (0.77), Mn (5.50) and Fe (7.86 mg kg−1)) were observed in only tuberwell irrigated fields. pH and electrical conductively of the soils did not differed significantly however organic carbon was higher in sewage water and better than tubewell and canal water irrigated fields. The vegetable crops grown in these soils also showed higher content of nutrients in Sw and lower in tubewell irrigated fields. Higher build up of Zn, Cu, and Mn were observed in spinach crop irrigated with all types of water whereas Fe was observed maximum in coriander with sewage water irrigated and Sw+TW and lower build up of Zn in carrot and that of Mn and Fe were in radish.
