The present study was carried out at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow during 2007–08. The various treatments viz. fruit packed in 0.5% ventilated polyethylene bags (control packed), treatment with cycocel (100 ppm) + benlate (0.1%), treatment with cycocel (100 ppm) + benlate (0.1%) and packed in 0.50% ventilated polyethylene bags, treatment with maleic hydrazide (100ppm) + benlate (0.1%), treatment with maleic hydrazide (100ppm) + benlate (0.1%) and packed in 0.5% ventilated polyethylene bags were taken considered for experiment. The observations were recorded under physical and chemical characteristics. The result reveals that among different treatments cycocel 100 ppm + benlate 0.1% bagged in polyethylene shows highest retention of ascorbic acid content, maintaining higher amount of acids, tannins and lowest physiological loss in weight (PLW) with chlorophyll degradation at minimum levels. Similarly, the retarding incidence of spoilage was also occurred minimum during storage. The fruits treated with cycocel 100 ppm + benlate 0.1% packed in polyethylene bags was proved to be best for improving physico-chemical quality and extending shelf life of aonla under the agro-climatic condition of Lucknow.
