Farming systems of households as prevailing in western U.P. have been analysed based on a sample of 197 farmers. It was found that the sugurcane based farming systems were predominant in the study area. Live stock, vegetable, cereal and sugarcane were the main source of farm income. The farmers were using surplus fertilizer and chemicals resulting negative marginal value productivity (MVP) on vegetable, cereal and sugarcane based farming system which deserves to be reduced for optimum use. The MVP of credit was found very attractive indicating very good scope to financing agencies to supply agricultural credit to the farmers of the area. Number of dairy animals was found nearly to the optimum (about 3 animals/farm). The farmers employed excess labour about 1300/ha as against the optimum requirement of about 500 man days/ha and there is a large scope to reduce the labour employment in existing farming systems. Fragmentation and subdivision of land holding, scarcities, of labour, low yield of local seeds, less reliable market in context of chaning global market, scarcity of owned fund, exogenenous factors, like dependence of natural resources, global warming, non-availability of good quality seeds (variety and breeds) and sheds for animals, poultry etc. were found major constraints in following intergrated farming system.
