Abstract

Five best yielding hybrids among 90 F1 of lentill were evaluated for its 9 component traits to understand the basis of heterosis for yield. Hybrids exhibiting positively singnificant heterosis for all the 9 traits excelled maximun, heterosis (144.7%) for yield, while hybrids showing negative heterosis for either test weight or pods per cluster, showed it decline of 21.24% heterosis in Yield, and if heterosis is negative for both the traits, 35% decline occurs in yield. It was asserted that heterosis for, yield has positive association with vigours of its component traits like test weight and pods per clusters.
