Abstract

Twenty-five homozygous varieties of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L) were crossed to a single tester, to estimate the gene action for tillers/plant, grains/splke and yield/plant in 1994-95 and 1995-96. Epistasis was detected by two independent comparisions (2 B1 i-F1 i-pi and 2BCi-Fl i) for grainslsplke and yield/plant in both the years and for tillers/plant in 1994-95. Additive gene action was signlficant for all the traits in both the years, whereas dominance action was present for tillers/plant and grain yield in both the years and for grains/spike in 1994-95 the degree of dominance was 0.45-0.49 in 1994-95 and 0.36-0.58 in 1995-96 for the various traits.
