Lakes and tanks are important part of urban ecosystem. These are important source of drinking water, groundwater recharge. At present time, when cities grow at a faster rate their importance has been increased. Indore is the fastest growing city of Madhya Pradesh because it is the commercial capital of the state. Due to continuous immigration in the city, it is facing the problem of unplanned urbanization which directly affects its water bodies. Major tanks of Indore are under pressure of this increasing population and their area is continuously decreasing due to encroachment. This study is based on secondary data and it is obtained through Google Earth Pro Software to know the total area of tanks in the year 2000, their present area (2022) and area under their encroachment.
