Abstract

The study was carried out to characterize ten chrysanthemum genotypes following the guidelines from the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) and Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA). The characterization of selected genotypes was done according to plant growth and flowering parameters. Plant characterization is used to distinguish genotypes for the purposes of tracking genetic integrity during long-term conservation, detecting duplicates and determining diversity. All the varieties showed variation with respect to parameters under study according to DUS guidelines. Breeders, researchers and farmers would be benefitted from this research in order to recognize distinctiveness in chrysanthemum genotypes and gain protection under the Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act.
