A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of soil and canopy temperatures on the germination, growth and yield of the various genotypes of the French bean during the years 2017 and 2018. the mean soil temperature during 2017 sown crop at 5cm depth was 18.0oc having range of 15.0oc to 22.8oc, while at 10 cm depth, the mean was 16.8oc having range of 14.0oc to 21.0oc, respectively. the minimum temperature of 15.0oc was observed during 31.01.2017, 07.02.2017 and 08.02.2017 while maximum temperature of 22.8oc was observed on 19.02.2017 at 5 cm depth. At 10 cm depth minimum temperature of 14.0oc was observed during 07.02.2017 while maximum temperature of 21.0oc was observed on 19.02.2018. the canopy temperature of genotypes Arka suvidha, Arka Anoop, Arka Sharath and Falguni was less during both years. The comparative values of leaf area index (LAI) indicated that genotype Arka suvidha was better with a leaf area index of 2.9, 4.3 and 2.7 after 30, 60 and 90 days of sowing during 2017, while it was 2.9, 4.7 and 2.7 at 30, 60 and 90 days of sowing during 2018.the other genotypes which showed higher leaf area index during 2017 and 2018 were Arka Anoop, Arka sharath and Falguni. in terms of green pod yield per plant the genotypes Arka suvidha, Arka Anoop and Arka sharath outperformed other genotypes. the leaf area index and green pod yield per plant showed positive relation with each other and similar trend was observed for leaf area index and canopy temperature.
