Stability analysis based on canopy temperature depression, cell membrane thermo-stability and yield component traits in bread wheat

Abstract

Stability parameters and heat-susceptibility index are useful in characterizing genotypes by showing their relative performance under diferent heat-stress environments. A study was conducted to assess stability of ffty bread wheat genotypes by using ten important physiological and yield component traits. The combined analysis of variance for environment (E), genotype (G) and their interaction (G × E) was highly signifcant for all the ten traits, suggesting diferential responses of the genotypes and need to go for further stability analysis.. Six genotypes were found high yielding as well stable under heat-stress environment based on mean performance, regression coefcient and deviation from regression along with heat-susceptibility index. HD 2329 showed stability for four traits viz. thousand grain weight, harvest index, cell membrane thermo-stability and grain yield; NW 1014 for three traits i.e. grain weight, harvest index and yield; CPAN 3004 and PBW 175 showed stability for grain weight and yield; DBW 14 for days to heading and grain yield; and K9006 showed stability for harvest index along with grain yield. These six genotypes can be used in further breeding programme to develop progenies for wheat growing areas having terminal heat stress.
