Study on the characteristics of pervious concrete

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different proportions of coarse aggregates on properties of pervious concrete. Density, porosity and permeability of the mixes were determined at curing age of 28 days. While compressive strength of the mixes was determined at curing age of 3 7, 14 and 28 days. Workability of concrete was also determined. It was observed that workability of most of the mixes was low. Compressive strength of the mixes was also low ranging from 4.4 MPa to 7.3 MPa. Density ranges were recorded from 1751.1 kg/m3to 1967.4 kg/m3. Porosity of 30.2% was obtained formix M7 and 18.8% formix M8. Permeability of the mixes varied from 21.7 m/hr to 76.9 m/hr. The results indicated that mix M5 and M14 was suitable for construction of pavements and foot paths.
