Abstract

A study was conducted to increase the usage of paddy transplanter by replacing transplanting unit of the machine with a spraying unit. The laboratory evaluation of the sprayer was done at varying PTO speeds at different gears. Different PTO speeds generated were 230 rpm at first gear with forward speed of 1.60 km/h, 380 rpm at second gear with forward speed of 1.9 km/h, and 440 rpm at third gear and forward speed of 2.4 km/h. There was considerable variation in the discharge and angle of spray of individual nozzles of the same make and specifications. Swath width increased with increase in PTO speed, forward speed and gear. The best combination for spraying the pesticides was found to be at gear III, with forward speed of 2.4 km/h and PTO speed of 440 rpm.
