Abstract

Precision seeding is one of the most crucial operations affecting the productivity and input cost in vegetable crops. The ability to place seeds at a given distance apart in a row is an important factor in evaluating a planter's performance. In this study, pneumatic metering mechanism was used for precision sowing of carrot seeds. The measures compared were the mean, standard deviation, single index, multiples index, miss index, and uniformity index. The results showed that when planter was operated at forward speed of 2 km/h at 2 kPa vacuum pressure, the single index was 91.82%, multiple index 7.01%, miss index 1.17%, and uniformity index 10.22% of the theoretical spacing.
