Role of transfer of technology methods for promotion of vegetable cultivation

Transfer of technology is a part of the agricultural extension system which is primarily concerned with transmitting information and knowledge of important agricultural technology from researcher to farmer. Transfer of technology methods play a significant role in dissemination and use of new technology effectively by the farmers. The present study aimed to know the different transfer of technology methods used by the farmers and extension personnel for seeking and disseminating information regarding vegetable cultivation. The study was conducted by taking a sample of 80 farmers and 60 extension personnel from eight villages of two blocks of Ludhiana district. Two separate schedules i.e. interview schedule and questionnaire were prepared to collect data from the farmers and extension personnel respectively. The results of the study revealed that demonstrations and lectures were the most preferred group contact methods by the extension personnel followed by farm and home visit, office call and newspaper. On the other hand, 43.75 per cent of the farmers received technical information regarding deficiency diseases of vegetable crops from private organizations followed by 36.25 per cent of the farmers who consulted fellow farmers for this information. Majority (32.5%) of the farmers used private companies as a source to receive information regarding latest hybrids of vegetable crops followed by 23.75 per cent of the farmers who took this information from the Department of Horticulture, Ludhiana.
