Abstract

Condensation of 3-aminoacetophenone with aniline and substituted anilines (I-VII) resulted in the formation of crude solids (Ia-VIIa) which were recrystallized from ethanol and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral studies. The synthesized compounds la-Vila were screened in vitro for their antifungal activity against Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysporum, Helminthosporium oryzae and Colletotrichum capsici by spore germination inhibition method. It has been observed that in general fungitoxicity enhanced with increase in electron donating effect or decrease in electron withdrawing effect of the substituent.
