A field experiment was conducted at experimental farm of the Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab) during rabi 2003–04 and 2004–05 to study the persistence of linuron applied for weed control in garlic (Allium sativum L.). Considering the concentration of linuron in soil as 100 per cent at 0 day after spray, it persisted 45.8 to 50.0 per cent by 30 days after spray and 12.0 to 15.4 per cent by 80 days after spray and degraded to non-detectable limit at 100 days after spray. At harvest no residue of linuron was detected in garlic cloves with and without peeling at both 1.0 and 1.5 kg ha−1 dose.
