Influence of sub-lethal doses of insecticides on the ovipositional pattern of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) on cotton

Abstract

The ovipositional pattern of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) in relation to sub-lethal doses of different insecticides i.e. chlorphyriphos 20EC (500, 750 g.a.i./ha), endosulfan 35 EC (437.50, 656.25 g.a.i./ha), indoxacarb 15 EC (75 g.a.i./ha), spinosad 48 SC (72 g.a.i./ha) and thiodicarb 75 WP (234.37, 351.52 g.a.i./ha) on cotton revealed significantly higher number of egg masses (1.21 per plant) and maximum number of eggs (210.16 per plant) in endosulfan @ 437.50 g.a.i/.ha which were at par with the control i.e. 1.21 egg mass/plant and, 178.43 eggs/plant indicating thereby non-inhibitory effect of insecticides. However, remaining insecticides inhibited the ovisposition and affected number of egg masses and number of eggs per plant.
