Efficacy of carfentrazone-ethyl against broadleaf weeds in wheat

Broadleaf weeds are becoming a major problem in wheat because of continuous use of grass specific herbicides for control of Phalaris minor. The efficacy of a new herbicide, carfentrazone-ethyl was tested against broadleaf weeds in wheat for three years (2003–04 to 2005–06). The results indicated that carfentrazone-ethyl was very effective against broadleaf weeds at doses (15.0 to 30.0 g ha⁻¹) tested and was safe to the wheat crop. The performance of this herbicide was comparable with 2,4-D and metsulfuron, the already recommended herbicides for control of broadleaf weeds in wheat.
